Construction on the Magic Kingdom ferry dock expansion is moving along, with timber pillars now cut and set in place along a concrete section of the developing landing. Wooden joists connect those pillars back toward the existing pathway, giving the project its first real structural shape above the waterline.
A large barge that had previously stationed a crawler excavator on-site is no longer present, suggesting that phase of groundwork may be wrapping up. Disney secured a permit for the dock project in February, and the state's water management district signed off on it in March.
The expansion builds on improvements Disney already made in 2021, when second-level ferryboat ramps were added so guests could unload from both decks of the boat simultaneously — cutting down wait times at the dock considerably.
The dock work is happening alongside another related project: a fourth ferryboat, named in honor of former Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton, is currently under construction backstage at the resort. Together, the expanded dock and the additional vessel should give the classic lake crossing noticeably more capacity once both are in service.
