Riders on the EPCOT Monorail are hearing a noticeably different script these days. The narration has been overhauled to remove references to attractions that were quietly canceled or indefinitely delayed — including the Play pavilion and the planned Mary Poppins ride — replacing those specifics with broader descriptions of each of the park's neighborhoods.
One of the more meaningful additions is a snippet of Walt Disney's own voice explaining what EPCOT stands for: Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Guests will hear it as they travel from the Transportation and Ticket Center toward the park. The new narration does not feature the voice of Tom Kane, who had been the face of Walt Disney World Monorail narration since 2012 and passed away earlier this year.
A few other changes stand out. Soarin' is now referenced simply as "Soarin'" — not Soarin' Around the World or Soarin' Across America — a deliberately vague choice that gives Disney flexibility without requiring future updates. The Seas With Nemo & Friends narration has shifted its emphasis away from Finding Nemo and toward the real marine life guests can see inside. And while Figment still gets a mention at the Imagination! pavilion, the Disney and Pixar Short Film Festival is no longer called out, even though the short films continue to screen there. World Showcase coverage has also pulled back, dropping references to specific countries.
The update isn't limited to the EPCOT line. The Express and Resort Monorail lines have also received new narration reminding guests that vaping is not permitted onboard. The Express line additionally removed its reference to Copper Creek Villas.
