Dreamed of going to Mars but prefer to keep your feet on Earth? NASA is looking for research volunteers willing to spend an entire year living inside a simulated deep space environment at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

The mission, slated to begin no earlier than August 2027, is designed to replicate the isolated and confined conditions that crew members would actually face during long-duration missions to the Moon or Mars. Participants will live and work as though they were truly on an interplanetary journey.

The research gathered from this kind of analog mission helps NASA better understand how humans hold up — physically and mentally — during extended stays far from home, which is critical planning information for future crewed exploration programs.

If a year of simulated space isolation sounds like your kind of adventure, NASA is actively recruiting candidates for the study. This announcement was made by NASA.
